A NEWSLETTER FOR THE WESTRIDGE SCHOOL COMMUNITY

Principal's Message

Hello, Westridge Families!

As we enter the third week of the third quarter, we encourage all families to regularly check student grades. This is an important time in the school year, and we are truly in crunch time—especially for our 8th graders as they prepare for the transition to high school. Report cards were sent home last Thursday, and if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher or guidance counselor to schedule a parent-teacher conference.

Basketball tryouts have officially concluded, and our teams are gearing up for their first games of the season. We are excited about the hard work and dedication our student-athletes have shown, and we hope to see our families and community come out to support them. Your encouragement makes a meaningful difference to our students.

WIDA testing will begin this week for students who are identified as English Language Learners. This assessment helps us better understand each student’s language development and allows us to use the data to provide targeted instruction and support. We appreciate your partnership as we work to ensure every student has the tools they need to be successful.

As always, thank you for your continued support and involvement in our school community. Together, we can help our students stay focused, work hard, and finish this quarter strong. With perseverance, collaboration, and a belief in themselves, our students can achieve great things—let’s keep encouraging them to do their very best.
Best Regards,

Our teachers have been hard at work preparing engaging lessons and activities. This week, we encourage students to actively participate in class discussions and seek help when needed. Please help us to encourage every student to participate in class. Remember, asking questions is a key part of the learning process!

Character Word of the Month – Cooperation

A notebook page with the word 'Cooperation' written in blue ink, alongside a calculator and glasses.
Cooperation means working together with others to reach common goal. In middle school, cooperation looks like listening to others ideas, sharing responsibilities, and helping teammates or classmates when needed. It means respecting different opinions, staying positive and doing your part so everyone can succeed. When students cooperate, learning is stronger, teamwork improves, and problems are solved more effectively.

Attendance Matters

The words 'attendance matters' are displayed in blue and gold.
We want to remind everyone about the importance of regular attendance. Being on time and present not only supports your academic success but also fosters a sense of community. Let’s strive for a strong start by making every school day count!

A Few Reminders...

The Westridge Warriors logo features a fierce warrior in armor, ready for action.
OCPS will be implementing a 3-year reevaluation/review cycle for all Section 504 plans, effective starting with the 2025-2026 school year.

There will be specific exceptions to the 3-year review procedure:

  • Grade Progression: Transition meetings will still occur for students moving from 5th to 6th grade and 8th to 9th grade.
  • Senior Transition: 504 plans will be updated during a student's graduation year.
  • Parent Requests: We will continue to hold meetings within 30 days if a parent requests a review.
  • New Information: If new information is presented that impacts a student's 504 plan, a 3-year reevaluation/review will be conducted.
  • Plans that have Individual Health Care Plans and/or Related Services will be reviewed annually.

Please reach out to your school-based Section 504 contact with any questions you may have.
