A NEWSLETTER FOR THE WESTRIDGE SCHOOL COMMUNITY

Principal's Message

Hello, Westridge Families!

We’ve had a wonderful start to the school year and I am proud of the hard work our students are already showing.

  • FAST PM1 Updates
  • Our students have successfully completed FAST PM1 Math. On Monday, September 8th, we will move forward with FAST PM1 ELA. Thank you for encouraging your child to do their best—it truly makes a difference!
  • Character Word of the Month: Respect
  • Throughout September, we are focusing on Respect. Respect means showing consideration and value to people, the environment, and yourself. Please join us in reinforcing this important character trait at home. Together, we can help our students grow not only academically, but also as thoughtful and responsible individuals.
  • Celebrating Our Staff
  • Every year, our staff votes to recognize a Teacher of the Year and Support Person of the Year who goes above and beyond for our students and school community.
  • Teacher of the Year: Ms. Oden – Ms. Oden, our Civics teacher, is dedicated to helping students understand the importance of being informed and active citizens. She brings lessons to life with engaging discussions and activities, and her passion for student growth is inspiring.
  • Support Person of the Year: Ms. Carrasquillo – As our attendance clerk, Ms. Carrasquillo plays a vital role in keeping students connected to school. She greets families with kindness, works tirelessly to support our students’ success, and always has a warm smile that brightens our front office.

Please join me in congratulating both outstanding members of our school family!
Thank you for your continued partnership. Together, we are making this year a great one for our students.
Best Regards,
Nicole L. Jefferson

Academic Highlight

Our teachers have been hard at work preparing engaging lessons and activities. This week, we encourage students to actively participate in class discussions and seek help when needed. Please help us to encourage every student to participate in class. Remember, asking questions is a key part of the learning process!

Want to help your student with their academics. Review these anchor charts with your students for a few minutes a night.

Character Word of the Month – Respect

respect_logo
Respect means you care enough to think about other’s feelings before you act.
If you expect respect, then be the first to show it!

Attendance Matters

We want to remind everyone about the importance of regular attendance. Being on time and present not only supports your academic success but also fosters a sense of community. Let’s strive for a strong start by making every school day count!

A Few Reminders...

OCPS will be implementing a 3-year reevaluation/review cycle for all Section 504 plans, effective starting with the 2025-2026 school year.

There will be specific exceptions to the 3-year review procedure:
  • Grade Progression: Transition meetings will still occur for students moving from 5th to 6th grade and 8th to 9th grade.
  • Senior Transition: 504 plans will be updated during a student's graduation year.
  • Parent Requests: We will continue to hold meetings within 30 days if a parent requests a review.
  • New Information: If new information is presented that impacts a student's 504 plan, a 3-year reevaluation/review will be conducted.
  • Plans that have Individual Health Care Plans and/or Related Services will be reviewed annually.

Please reach out to your school-based Section 504 contact with any questions you may have.
